The eight-time world champion and four other athletes – bodybuilder Sazali Samad, kata exponent Lim Chee Wei, weightlifter Mohd Hafifi Mansor and rider Zaqhwan Zaidi – have been nominated for the top award.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Petaling Jaya Hilton on March 18.

The 31-year-old Nicol was picked based on her excellent form last year, which saw her win the British Open title for the eighth time, retain the gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and bag two gold medals at the Incheon Asian Games in the individual and team events.

Sazali, who won the 2013 SAM-100Plus award, was nominated for winning a record 10th Mr Universe title last year.

Hafifi won the first gold for Malaysia at the Glasgow Games in the men’s below 69kg category while Chee Wei made a memorable debut at the Incheon Asiad by bagging the gold in the men’s individual kata event.

The 19-year-old Zaqhwan was nominated for winning the Superbike crown in the Malaysian Super Series and clinching the Asian Road Racing Championships SuperSports 600c title last year.
