Nicol gets revenge over Waters in Chicago

PETALING JAYA: World No.1 Nicol David got the better of England's Alison Waters in the quarter-finals of the US$150,000 (RM543,000) Windy City Open in Chicago on Monday.

Eight-time world champion Nicol, who saw her only defeat this year last month at the hands of world No.5 Waters in the Tournament of Champions in New York, won 12-10, 12-10, 11-7 in 39 minutes.
Another Malaysian entry, Low Wee Wern however suffered a 9-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-9 defeat to world No. 2 Raneem El Welily of Egypt in the quarter-finals.

World No.8 Wee Wern took the first set and generally played well but there was no stopping Raneem who came back to win.

Raneem the champion in New York last month, will face France's Camille Serme in the semi-finals. Serma whipped surprise package Emma Beddoes of England 11-4, 11-2, 11-5 in the quarter-finals.

In the men's event, world No.14 Marwan El Shorbagy defeated fellow Egyptian Karim Abdel Gawad 12-10, 7-11, 5-11, 11-7, 11-9 to set up a semi-final clash with older brother and world No.1 Mohamed El Shorbagy.
