Harimau Muda Players Should Be Free To Pick Their Teams - Khairy

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 16 (Bernama) - Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said Harimau Muda players who have seen out their contracts should be allowed to play for their team of choice.

This is not in line with the new Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) ruling which require the players to play for their home state for at least one season.

The FAM introduced the new ruling this season following the squabble over a handful of Harimau Muda players by several state teams.

The definition of home state was changed from the place of birth to the last team represented by the players before joining Harimau Muda.

Khairy, however, respect the decision of the FAM but believed it was better for them to allow the players to go where they want.

"Former Harimau Muda A coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee also agree that the players should not be prevented from playing for their teams of choice," he told reporters after attending a business luncheon organised by the Malay Economic Action Council and MARA at Sime Darby Convention Centre here, today.
