OCM Should Have Got In Touch With MAU - Shahidan

KANGAR, Jan 12 (Bernama) - The spat between the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) and the Malaysian Athletic Union (MAU) over the Malaysian International Marathon (MIM) can be resolved amicably.

MAU adviser and former president, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the organising of the MIM would not have become a polemic if the OCM knew its limit.

"If the OCM say the law allows it to organise the MIM, please organise other events. However the recognition of events lies with the MAU, not with the OCM.

"The athletes taking part will lose because the achievement made is not recognised although they can keep the prize money," he said after chairing the post-flood meeting of Perlis state government agencies, here today.

It became a hot issue after MAU president Datuk Karim Ibrahim threatened to sue the OCM for organising the MIM in Penang from May 23-24.

Shahidan said the OCM should stand down on this issue and get in touch with Karim to talk things over.

"I hope that OCM president Tunku Tan Sri Imran Tuanku Jaafar intervenes to put a stop to it and resolve the issue.

"I agree with Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin that they should focus on important and not trivial matters which mask the real issue," he added.
