KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 7 (Bernama) -- The paralympics branch of the National Sports Council (NSC) has identified 61 international meets that offer qualification points for the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games in 2016.
According to its director Mohd Safrushahar Yusoff, the meets involve 13 types of sports inlcuding athletics and archery.
"Besides sending our paralympians to these meets, they will also undergo intensive training locally so that they can qualify for Rio," he told Bernama after witnessing the presenting of incentives from the owner of a local catering company to the national paralympics athletics squad for their fine performance at the Asia Para Games in Incheon, South Korea last October.
The squad contributed 10 of the 15 gold medals won by Malaysia at the Asian Games.
The owner of Katering Megah Selera which operates in Bukit Jalil, Abd Nassair (rpt: Abd Nassair) Abd Ghani said the incentives worth RM22,000 were his sincere contribution in recognising the sacrifices of the paralympians in bringing glory for the country.
At the event, Mohammad Azlan Mat Lazin was the recipient of the most rewards for winning three gold medals at the Incheon Games, in the Men's T32 category (cerebral palsy 100m, 200m and 400m races.
