MAU To Send Proposal Paper To OCM On Organisation Of 2015 MIM

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Athletic Union (MAU) will send a proposal paper to the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) on the 2015 Malaysia International Marathon (MIM).

National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Ahmad Shapawi Ismail said he was informed by MAU president Datuk Karim Ibrahim that they would do so as a way of solving the issue after OCM was adamant about using the original name.

"This is because MAU is an affiliate of OCM. I was told they (MAU) will send the proposal paper soon and I will leave the matter to them (to solve it).

"It is up to OCM whether it wanted to look at the proposal or not," said Ahmad Shapawi to reporters after attending a meeting with MAU here, Tuesday.

Karim was adamant that MAU would not recognise the event as it was against the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) rules which stipulated that athletic championship must get the support of the athletic parent body of a country.

The event is scheduled to take place on May 23-24 at Stadium Batu Kawan, Penang with an overall prize of RM350,000 and was organised for the first time by OCM with the aim of collecting funds to help national sport associations.

The OCM Sponsorship and Marketing Committee, however, made a U-turn last week by deciding to retain the original name claiming it was suitable with the marketing strategy of sponsors for the run.

OCM president Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Ja'afar, on Jan 13, was reported as planning to change the name from MIM to Tuanku Abdul Halim Bridge Run after getting a protest from MAU.
