Beng Hai To Make Comeback As National Coach - MHC

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Former National head coach Tai Beng Hai will return to head the National team once again after being appointed as the interim coach of the senior team by the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC).

MHC deputy president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad said Beng Hai would take over the role of senior team coach to prepare for the second round of the World Hockey League that starts in Singapore on Jan 17.

Arul Selvaraj who had taken over from former National head coach Dharmaraj Abdullah would continue to prepare the junior squad for the Asian Junior Cup next year and 2016 Junior World Cup in New Delhi, India.

"Tengku President (Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah) said Tai Beng Hai will be in charge of the senior squad until a new coach is appointed," he told reporters after chairing a managers meeting for the senior and junior teams at the MHC office which is situated at the National Hockey Stadium in Bukit Jalil, here today.

Australian Terry Walsh is said to be on MHC's radar for the post of National head coach.

"Until when Beng Hai will be the coach will be announced later but the focus now is to prepare the squad for the World Hockey League in Singapore," he said.

Apart from Malaysia and Singapore as the host, Bangladesh, Japan, Fiji, Oman, Ukraine and Poland will be taking part.

The best team in the World Hockey League in Singapore will qualify for the semifinals of the World Hockey League finals that would be held in Argentina and Belgium.

Beng Hai when met said he was ready to shoulder the responsibility to prepare the team to win a spot in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

"I will not make many changes to the current squad but more importantly look at the fitness level in the team," he said.
