JOHOR BAHARU, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia continued to slump and failed to add more points at the 2014 Sultan of Johor Cup Under-21 International Hockey Championship at Taman Daya hockey stadium here today after losing 2-4 to India.
To date, the national junior squad under Arul Selvaraj have only collected one point from their draw with New Zealand on Monday.
In other matches, Malaysia were defeated by Australia and Great Britain.
India opened scoring in the 25th and 27th minutes via penalty corners converted by Harmanpreet Singh.
Malaysia stepped up their attack in the second half and were rewarded with a field goal by Sufi Ismat Rohulamin in the 37th minute.
Five minutes later Azril Misron slotted Malaysia's second goal to equalise the score.
But Harmanpreet was on target again for a hattrick to net India's third goal through a penalty corner in the 55th minute.
Varun Kumar scored India's fourth goal via a 65th minute penalty stroke.
Meanwhile, New Zealand recorded their first win by beating Pakistan 3-2.
Their goals were scored by Harry Miskimmin in the 5th minute, Nic Woods (19th), and Graig Jones (44th) while Pakistan's goals were scored by Abu Mahmood in the 55th and 66th minutea.
Great Britain maintained their hold at the top of the table by blasting Australia 5-1 with goals by Luke Taylor in the 16th, 18th and 33rd minutes while Hamish Imrie and James Albery respectively scored in the 49th and 56th minutes.
Australia's only goal was netted by Alec Rasmussen in the 22nd minute.
