Golden glitter at Asian Para Games in Incheon

PETALING JAYA: Muhammad Ziyad Zolkefli and Siti Noor Radiah Ismail won a gold each for Malaysia on the second day of the Asian Para Games in Incheon, South Korea.

Ziyad, the 2012 London Paralympics bronze medallist, emerged champion in the men’s shot putt F20 event with a throw of 15.31m while Siti Noor finished first in the women’s long jump T20 event. Siti Noor cleared 5.10m to beat fellow Malaysian Siti Nooriasah Mohamed Ariffin by a mere 0.05m.


Malaysia also won a silver in the men’s 400m T38 event through Krishna Kumar Hari Das. The other two bronzes in athletics came through Hemala Devi in the women’s discus F11/12 and Umi Syuhudah Idris in the women’s discus F36/37/38.


Aiman Asyraff Ahmad Bajuri picked up a silver and a bronze in the men’s cycling track competition,. He won the silver in the men’s mixed individual B 1km time trial event when he finished behind Japan’s Yurie Kanuma.


In the individual B pursuit event, Aiman finished third. Mohd Najib Turano also contributed a bronze in the individual C4-5 pursuit event.


In swimming, Jamery Siga managed a bronze in the men’s 200m freestyle S5 event.

To date, Malaysia have won two golds, three silvers and five bronzes. A total of 135 Malaysian athletes are competing in the Games, which end on Oct 24.
