THE Malaysian bowling squad are all set as the 13th World Youth Championships get underway in Hong Kong today.
The eight-member squad comprising four boys and four girls will be hoping to break the gold medal drought, as Malaysia last won gold in the men’s team event at the 2008 edition in Orlando, USA.
Retired kegler Aaron Kong also won gold in the men’s masters final that year.
Team manager Cheah Ban Cheng said yesterday. “After the official practice session ended, Associate National Coach, John Forst was pleased with his charges and commented that his girls’ team was in fine condition.
“Ben Heng also gave the thumbs up for his boys as they are ready for the championship,” said Ban Cheng.
Rafiq Ismail and Ahmad Muaz Fishol will take to the lanes today for the boys’ Squad A, while Victoria Chin and Nerosha Keligit will bowl in the girls’ Squad A.
Timmy Tan and Jonathan Ding will bowl tomorrow in the boys’ Squad D while Radin Nur Najwa and Natasha Roslan in the girls Squad D.
Malaysia won three silver medal and one bronze at the previous edition in Bangkok two years ago.
