AFF Cup: Final Realistic Target For Harimau Malaya - Khairy

PETALING JAYA, Aug 12 (Bernama) -- The target of the reaching the final of the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup is realistic for the Harimau Malaya (national squad) is realistic, said Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

He said the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) surely had studied in detail the performance of the team and the plans of national chief coach Dollah Salleh in setting the target.

He conceded that Dollah needed time to form a strong team despite losing to Tajikistan 1-4 in a friendly match in Dushanbe last Friday.

"We have to be careful when evaluating the coach (Dollah) who is guiding the national team for the first time. He has a heavy task especially when facing major matches.

"I hope the target is realistic and I am sure FAM are more aware of our team's performance," he told reporters here Tuesday.

The squad is scheduled o face Jordan in a friendly match at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Oct 11 next.

The Harimau Malaya are expected to face a difficult path at the championship after being drawn in Group B with defending champion Singapore and three-time champions Thailand.

Earlier, Khairy had witnessed the signing of an agreement between Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) president Razak Mat Amin and Jump Street Malaysia Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Duncan McGilligan.

MGF and Jump Street Trampoline Park today signed a first exclusive public-private sector agreement aimed at identifying and unearthing new talents to form the first trampoline gymnastics team in Malaysia.
