Cheong Fails To Repeat Silver Medal Feat In World Diving Series

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) -- National women's diver, Cheong Jun Hoong failed to repeat Saturday's silver medal feat in the final leg of the 2014 Fina Diving World Series in Monterrey, Mexico.

Cheong, who clinched silver after partnering Pandelela Rinong in the 10m synchronised platform on Saturday, accumulated 344.60 points to come in last out of six divers in the 3m springboard individual events.

China continued their supremacy as Shi Tingmao claimed the gold medal after scoring 369.90 points in the five rounds of dive, according to the International Swimming Federation (Fina) website www.fina.org.

Mexico's Laura Sanchez was a suprise package after clinching silver with 362.40 points while Canadian Jennifer Abel had to settle for bronze medal after amassing 351.55 points.

After the completion of the final leg, China swept the top two spots in the overall standing of the events through Wang Han and He Zi who collected 82 and 70 points respectively, while Italy's Tania Cagnotto was in third with 66 points.

Cheong and another Malaysian diver, Ng Yan Yee, were in the ninth and 17th positions after collecting 26 and five points, respectively.

Pandelela will compete in her favorite event, the 10m individual platform, later today.
