Rio To Malaysia Carnival To Serve As Curtain Raiser For 2014 World Cup In Brazil - MP

KUALA LUMPUR, May 14 (Bernama) -- The 'Rio to Malaysia' carnival which serves as a curtain raiser to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, will be held in Kota Tinggi, Johor for three days.

In conjunction with the carnival that will be held at the Padang Awam Bukit Kerajaan in Kota Tinggi, three main events would be held, namely an attempt to make it to the 'Malaysian Book of Records' by dribbling a ball for 100km.

Another event is to make the biggest Teacher's Day card involving 1,800 students from the various schools in Kota Tinggi, said Yayasan Mesra chairman Datuk Noor Ehsanuddin Mohd Harun Narrashid who is also the Kota Tinggi Member of Parliament at RTM's Angkasapuri, here Wednesday.

Also present were RTM's Deputy Director-general of Broadcasting Dr Ahmad Jailani Mohamed Yunus and Kota Tinggi District officer Mohd Noorazam Datuk Osman.

The carnival, organised by RTM who have been given exclusive terrestrial broadcasting rights for the FIFA 2014 World Cup in Brazil from June 12 to July 13, together with the Kota Tinggi District office, Yayasan Mesra, Felda Global Venture Holdings and Yayasan Felda, is expected to attract 100,000 visitors.

Apart from the main events, various community and sports activities which offer lucrative prizes will be organised while a number of local artistes like Mas Idayu, Ali Empire, Hyperact, Sleeq, Farhan and Azrul Raja Lawak will entertain the visitors.

Noor Ehsanuddin said apart from acting as a promotion for the World Cup that kicks on in Brazil on June 12, the carnival would also promote leading tourist destinations in Johor, especially in Kota Tinggi.
