NEW DELHI, April 1 (Bernama) - It was a mere walk in the park for Malaysian shuttlers in the qualifying round of the Yonex Sunrise-BWF Metlife India Open Super Series badminton championships at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here.
Mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Lai Pei Jing received a walkover when their opponents Harinder Malik/Meenu Sing from India retired when trailing 1-11 in the first set.
Peng Soon-Pei Jing also won their second match against India's Sanyam Shukla/Sanyogita Ghorpade 21-10, 21-14 to move on while Abdul Khalid Mohd Lufti Zaim/Soong Fie Cho who also received a walkover from India's Chirag Sen/Kuhoo Garg in the first round, went on to beat Taiwan's Liao Kuan Hao/Pai Hsian Ma 14-21, 21-13, 21-9 in the second qualifying round.
In the men's doubles competition Chiang Iann Shiarng/Yeoh Kay Ee easily disposed India's B. Kiran Kumar/P. Vinay Kumar Reddy 21-18, 21-13.
The men's single competition involving Chiang Jiann Shiarng was also a stroll for the Malaysian shuttler who crashed India's Vijetha N.V.S 21-17, 21-9, in the first qualifying round but was booted out in the second round by Thailand's Avithingsanon Suppanyu 22-24, 12-21.
Abdul Khalid-Fie Cho will meet Indonesia's Markis Kido/Bernadeth Pia Zebadiah while Peng Soon-Pei Jing face Japan's Kenichi Hayakawa/Misaki Matsutomo.
Datuk Lee Chong Wei is set to play against India's K. Ajay Kumar, while men's doubles pair Hoon Thien How/Tan Wee Kiong will be up against China's Jun Kang/Cheng Liu.
