KUCHING, April 22 (Bernama) -- Pahang SUKMA gold squash medallist Affeeq Ismail Abeeden who is currently studying at the Trinity College in Hartford Connecticut, United States, will return home to represent Sarawak in the Perlis SUKMA, next month.
This was confirmed by Affeeq's mother Siti Aishah Abdullah.
Siti said Affeeq, the former national junior number one has received a call up from the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS) to represent the state in the upcoming SUKMA in Perlis.
"Affeeq will return home on May 11 to join the state team that is training here," said Siti.
In the 2012 SUKMA hosted by Pahang, Affeed partnered Sanjay Singh to win the gold medal in the men's doubles.
Affeeq, 21, was the top player in the Asian Junior Super Series Championship, winning the Hong Kong Under-17 Junior champion in 2009 and the Australian Under-17 Junior Champion in the same year.
He also represented Malaysia in many tournaments, including the Asian Junior Championship, British Junior and the World Youth championship.
Affeeq was the top Malaysian junior and Asian Junior Super Series No.1 till June 2012 when he turned 19-year-old.
He started his squash at the Gymkhana Club in Miri before moving to Sabah with his mother and came back to Kuching in 2010.
