Police Record Statement From JDT II Official Who Had Allegedly Punched Match Official

JOHOR BARU, April 22 (Bernama) -- Police have started investigations into an alleged assault of a match referee by an official during a Premier League match between Johor Darul Takzim II (JDT II) and UiTM at the Pasir Gudang Stadium, here on Saturday.

Johor deputy police chief Datuk Ismail Yatim said police have recorded statement from JDT II's team manager, On Jabbar and the case was being investigated under Section Section 323 of the Penal Code.

"We have received a report from the referee and we have started investigations. We will be calling several witnesses from other states soon. We are also be working with Terengganu and Kedah police," he told reporters after the Johor police contingent monthly assembly here today.

On Jabbar was alleged to have punched referee Sukri Abd Rahman after the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

"Based on investigation, On Jabbar was said to have punched the referee as he was angry and disappointed with the way the match was handled by him (Sukri), but he was later calmed down and taken out of the field," he said.

The team manager arrived at the Johor police headquarters in Seri Alam, at about 10am today to give his statement.
