MALAYSIA warmed up with two easy wins in the mixed team event of the World Junior Championships in Alor Star yesterday. The team, led by World No 9 junior Cheam June Wei, opened their campaign by notching 5-0 wins over Group Z2 minnows Australia and Uzbekistan.
Except for Ooi Zi Heng-Zhen Yap, who dropped one game in mixed doubles against Australia, the others won in two games in both ties.
Malaysia face Africa's representatives Zambia and dark horses India in their final group matches today. But Zambia are unlikely to turn up as they had given walkovers to India and Uzbekistan yesterday.
India are Malaysia's biggest obstacle in the group and the tie is expected to be close.
Only the champions of each pool will qualify for the quarter-finals in the eight-group competition of 32 teams.
However, Malaysia's campaign, if they top their group, in the quarter-finals is expected to be tough as they are drawn to meet former world junior champions China.
