Chong Wei Dedicates India Open Win To Son

NEW DELHI, April 6 (Bernama) -- World No 1 men's singles shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei dedicated his second consecutive India Open victory to his son Kingston Lee, who will be turning one on April 12.

He beat world number two, China's Chen Long 21-13, 21-17 at the Yonex Sunrise-BWF Metlife India Open Super Series badminton championship finals Sunday.

"I dedicate this win to my son who will be turning one next week. I also hope to win back to back in Singapore as well," an elated Chong Wei told reporters after the match at the Siri Fort Sports Complex here.

The 2014 OUE Singapore Open will be held from April 8-13, 2014.

Queried if this would be his last India Open, he said: "I still don't know. If all goes well, I might come back next year. For now, I'll be back in India for my fans at next month's Thomas Cup."

Commenting on the match today, Chong Wei said: "I did my best to take every shot and I think Chen Long didn't play well today. (He made) a few simple mistakes."

Meanwhile, China's Tang Yuanting/Yu Yang won the women's doubles 21-10, 13-21, 21-16 against Korea's Jung Kyung Eun/Kim Ha Na.

Denmark's Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen thrashed Liu Xiaolong/Qiu Zihan from China 17-21, 21-15, 21-15.

Whereas, world number two women's singles Wang Shixian from China beat her team mate, world number one, Li Xuerui, 22-20, 21-19.

Denmark's mixed doubles Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen beat Korea's Ko Sung Hyun/Kim Ha Na 21-16, 18-21, 21-18.

This year's purse for the India Open was US$250,000 (US$1 = RM3.25), higher than last year's US$200,000.
