TSG Hoping For Local Riders To Spring A Surprise Or Two At LTdL 2014

KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- The country's only professional cycling outfit, Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) has vested its hopes on six experienced riders to chart its fortune in the Le Tour de Langkawi 2014 (LTdL 2014) which starts next week.

The LTdL 2014 which is the 19th edition, starts from Feb 27 to March 8 and covers a distance of 1,506.5km throughout the 10 stages - starting from Langkawi to its final destination in Kuala Terengganu.

TSG's chief executive officer Rozali Salleh said the six riders, all locals, would be spearheaded by Anuar Manan.

The others in the squad are Muhammad Adiq Hussaini Othman, Mohd Harris Salleh, Zamri Salleh, Mohd Shahrul Mat Amin and Mohammad Saudi Mat Senan.

"We are not using any import riders so as to give local riders an opportunity to prove their mettle and probably create a surprise or two, God willing," he told Bernama Tuesday.

The race is sanctioned by the International Cycling Union (UCI) as a 2.HC (hors category) race as part of the UCI Asia Tour calendar.

He said each rider in the team were experts in their own respective routines like sprints, climbing and flat terrain.

Rozali said the TSG team would be under a new coach, Julian John Winn from England, since the contract of Italian coach Sebastian Duclos had expired, but before the arrival of the English coach, former National cyclist Mohd Jasmin Othman will be the caretaker coach.
