KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 12 (Bernama) -- The 13th Asian Junior Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship hosted by Malaysia will provide a platform for 104 gymnasts from the Asian region to vie for a place in the Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China later this year.
The Malaysian Gymnastics Federation (MGF) president A. Razak Mat Amin said the 104 gymnasts will represent 17 countries that have already confirmed their participation in the championship.
Apart from Malaysia as the host, Japan, South Korea, China, Syria, Qatar, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore are among countries that have confirmed their participation, he said.
"Malaysia will field 10 gymnasts in the championship and they must use the opportunity of performing on home turf to try and qualify for the Youth Olympics in August.
"Based on reports submitted by the coaches, the performance of the gymnasts in training has been satisfactory and have the ability to qualify for the Youth Olympics," Razak told Bernama, Wednesday.
The championship will feature gymnasts who are between 13 and 15 who compete in individual and team events.
