Khairy who chaired the first NFDP committee meeting Monday despite the absence of a representative from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), said the meeting today was to kick start the preparation of the NFDP draft that will encompass a comprehensive development plan which includes players, coaches, officials and a new methodology.
Lim Teong Kim, a former national footballer and assistant coach of Germany's Bayern Munich under-19 team, was appointed as football development director and would spearhead the national football development plan.
He said Teong Kim had visited football academies and excellence centres throughout the country to gather enough information and data to start the plan.
"Today's meeting was centered around the draft of the plan which is a long term plan that starts from next year to 2020. The objective is to gather ideas and recommendations," he said after the meeting in Bukit Jalil, here.
Khairy said once the draft was ready it would be presented to the cabinet for endorsement to ensure the plan remains in force, no matter who the Youth and Sports Minister would be at any given time.
He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak would officially launch the NFDP in January at the National Football Academy in Gambang, Pahang.
"I was informed that the FAM was seeking clarification from FIFA and Asian Football Confederation (AFC) over the appointment of Tan Sri Annuar Musa in the committee and I do not blame them," he said.
The minister had appointed Annuar as a member of the committee although the latter was serving a 30-month suspension by the FAM which forbids him from being involved in all football activities.
The FAM had stated that they would not attend the meeting before seeking clarification from FIFA and AFC over the validity of Annuar's appointment in the committee.
