MTBC Expect 430 Keglers To Compete In 36th Malaysian International Open Bowling Championships

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress (MTBC) expects 430 keglers to participate in the 36th Malaysian International Open Bowling Championships at the Sunway Mega Lanes, Sunway Pyramid, near here from Nov 15 to 23.

MTBC President Datuk Dr P.S. Nathan said 170 participants from Asia and Europe had already confirmed their participation for the championships that offers RM362,500 as prize money.

"The championships has attracted world class players, including the 2013 World Championships Men's Masters and Women's Masters champions from South Korea, (Men's and Women's Gold Medallist in the 2013 World Championships), Cho Young and Son Yunhee.

"We are waiting for confirmation from bowlers from the United States. Our hopes will hinge on Zandra Aziela Ibrahim Hakimi and Zulmazran Zulkifli in the women's and men's events," he told reporters when announcing the event at the Sunway Resort Hotel, here, Tuesday.

Nathan said the 16 countries taking part are Australia, Brunei, Taiwan, England, Hong Kong, Indonesia, South Korea, Macau, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Sweden, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and Malaysia.

Meanwhile, defending women's champion Zandra Aziela, 27, remains optimistic of winning the title for the third consecutive year, after having won in 2011 and 2012.

Apart from Zandra Aziela and Zulmazran, Muhd Syafiq Ridhwan, Alex Liew, Sin Li Jane and Shahlin Zulkifli will be among the Malaysian keglers in the championships.
