Khairy Willing To Meet FAM Over Issues

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin Monday stated his willingness to meet face to face with Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) top officials over issues in the national football governing body.

Yesterday, FAM's Player Status Committee chairman Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said Khairy needed to take this approach to address arising issues.

"I have no problem with discussing (with FAM)," he told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby, here.

However, he said the meeting must be a formal one and not just "coffee shop" talk.

He said no matter the polemics, he would still meet FAM's representatives to present his ministry's plan for the development of football in the country.

"I will ask for a date, (from FAM), who represents FAM is up to them. Perhaps then we can discuss on issues relating to the management of FAM," he told reporters after making a visit to the Olympics Council of Malaysia office here.

He was asked whether he was prepared to meet with the FAM leaders to resolve the issues in FAM.

The tiff between Khairy and FAM heightened when he criticised the FAM Security Committee following the discovery of a loaded pistol in one of the toilets at the Shah Alam Stadium on the night of the Malaysia Cup finals between Pahang and Kelantan on Nov 3.

Khairy recently was reported to have said that his criticism was made in the interest of Malaysian football and not because he bore a grudge against the FAM leaders.
