Racer Izzat Calls For His Mother Before Lapsing Into Unconsciousness

KUALA TERENGGANU, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Super Series Motorcycle (MSS) Championship 2013 racer Muhammad Izzat Mohd Abdul Hakim called for his mother before he lapsed into unconsciousness when being treated at Putrajaya Hospital.

The 17-year-old racer died at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) at 1pm on Wednesday, five days after he became unconscious due to serious head injuries sustained in an accident at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).

According to his mother, Norhaida Mohd Noor, 44, she came to know about the accident at 2pm after she was given the news by her husband.

She said when she arrived at Putrajaya Hospital, she felt her son's condition was critical after observing that the shirt and shoes worn by her husband were splattered with blood.

"I could feel something bad befalling my son and my husband urged me to pray hard, but when I reached my son, he was already unconscious," she told reporters on Thursday at the Kampung Bukit Kecil Muslim cemetery, here, where Izzat was laid to rest at 9.30am.

The funeral was also attended by about 100 close relatives and SIC Ninja 250cc Cup team manager, Steven Ong.

She said the morning before her son breathed his last, she had bought a diary to record his condition and snippets of his life until he recovered.

She said the suggestion was made by a friend to motivate her but it was not to be after Izzat died before she could write anything.

"I would have accepted it if my son was paralysed and I would have taken care of him, and I complied with the suggestion to buy a diary to record every development of my son's condition.

"But Allah loves him more. I accept what has happened as fated," she said.

Izzat's father, Mohd Abdul Hakim Embong, 47, said he was not far from the scene of the accident to record his son's performance during the training session's time trial.

However, when his son was in the final round, he heard over a marshal's walkie talkie that 'Rossi 46' was involved in an accident and he raced into the circuit and saw his son sprawled on the ground covered in blood. He urged Izzat to say his prayers.

In the incident on Saturday, Izzat, who was racing in the 250cc class, was believed to have lost control of his motorcycle on a straight stretch before skidding and ramming into race marshal S. Satish, 44, at 12.30pm.

Satish died at Putrajaya Hospital on the same day due to serious head injuries while Izzat, who also sustained serious injuries, was sent to HKL.

Following the accident, the fourth round of the 2013 MSS race was postponed.
