Malaysia Lose To India In Final

JOHOR BAHARU, Sept 29 (Bernama) - Malaysia have to settle for second best after losing to India 0-3 in the Sultan of Johor Cup final at Taman Daya Hockey Stadium here Sunday.

India attacked as early as the 6th minute when Satbir Singh forced Malaysian goalkeeper Muhammad Hafizuddin Othman to make a save.

The first goal arrived in the 22nd minute when Amon Mirash Tirkey scored after receiving a pass from Kothajit Singh.

The goal made the Malaysian players to lose focus and this gave India the chance to launch several attacks forcing Muhammad Hafizuddin to make several saves.

Malaysia had the opportunity to equalise in the 47th minute but Izad Hakimi was denied by the Indian goalkeeper.

In their pursuit of goal, the Malaysians became careless and were punished when Affan Yousuf scored India's second goal in the 55th minute.

Mampreet Singh converted a penalty corner in the 64th minute to score India's third goal and win the Sultan of Johor Cup.

In earlier matches, Argentina won third place after beating Pakistan 3-0 via penalty strokes after both teams failed to produce a goal in 70 minutes of play.

Pakistan settled for fourth place.

South Korea ended fifth after beating England 6-0 in a match for fifth and sixth places.
