Khairy Wants Rashid To Reconsider Quit Decision And Return To BAM

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin urged former national singles coach Rashid Sidek who tendered his resignation last week, to reconsider his decision, and return to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

Khairy said BAM President Tan Sri Tengku Mahaleel Tengku Ariff had informed him that the BAM had received clarification from Rashid and Datuk Lee Chong Wei's coach Tey Seuy Bock with regard to their contracts with the India Badminton League (IBL).

"It's just a misunderstanding. Although Rashid needs time to think about it, I hope Rashid will come back to BAM because he has a good relationship and understanding with Datuk Lee Chong Wei," he told reporters after opening the 13th Asian Federation Sports Medicine Congress, here, Thursday.

Rashid, the former National singles coach who quit last Thursday had said that coaches were treated like second-class citizens and that he did not enjoy the working environment any more due to the drastic changes brought about by the BAM, or rather Tan Aik Mong who was BAM's Talent Management Group director.

However, two days ago Aik Mong tendered his resignation when the BAM decided to revert to its old system although Aik Mong had revamped the coaching structure.
