PALEMBANG, Sept 26 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian contingent taking part in the 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) ended the fourth day of competition on a positive note by winning three gold medals.
Two of the three gold medals won today came from badminton, namely the men's and women's team events while the other was fished out from the pool by swimmer Khoo Cai Lin.
The first gold medal of the day came from the men shuttlers who beat Turkey 4-1 to capture the team event gold while their women counterparts white-washed Turkey 5-0 to clinch the women's team gold.
Swimmer Khoo Cai Lin then splashed here way to the women's 400m Freestyle gold at the Jaka Baring Aquatic Centre and later added a silver medal from the 200m Butterfly.
When the fourth day of competitions ended today, Malaysia with eight gold, four silver and six bronze medals remained in fifth spot behind leader Indonesia with 14 gold, 12 silver, 16 bronze; Egypt with 13 gold, 12 silver, 14 bronze; Turkey with 13 gold, 10 silver, 22 bronze and Iran with 9 gold, 8 silver and two bronze medals.
On Friday, Malaysia will continue its gold hunt in swimming, weightlifting and athletics.
Meanwhile, Cai Lin who splashed her way to the 400m Freestyle gold with a time of 4:20.99s was not happy with her result in the 200m Butterfly where she finished second behind Monalisa Arieswaty Lorenza from the host country with a time of 2:18.21s.
Arieswaty finished with a time of 2:16.55s, well ahead of Cai Lin who said she was disappointed with her time and the silver medal finish.
"Since I had targeted to win the gold in the 200m Butterfly, I am disappointed," she told Bernama, here, Thursday.
She added that swimmers from the middle east countries were providing stiff competition to other swimmers in the competition.
The swimmer from Selangor will compete in the 800m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle, Friday.
