Revington To Continue As National Head Coach For Hockey - Zolkples

PUTRAJAYA, July 16 (Bernama) -- National hockey head coach Paul Revington has agreed to stay on until the end of his contract said National Sports Council (NSC) director-general Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong, Tuesday.

"The decision was arrived after a closed door meeting. He (Revington) agreed to continue his services as the National head coach for hockey. During the meeting we urged him to forget the whole episode and focus on preparing the team for the 2013 Asia Cup," said Zolkples when met at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, here, today.

The closed door meeting was attended by Revington, Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) President Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, Zolkples, MHC Deputy President Datuk Nur Azmi and team manager George Koshy, at the Shahzan House, Jalan Ampang, here.

"There were no other issues raised during the meeting," he said.

As for Revington's contract, Zolkples said the contract would run through the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil if required.

"The current contract is for two years (Aug 2014) and Revington is prepared to continue his duties in efforts to try and earn a ticket to Rio," said Zolkples.

Revington's immediate task would be to prepare a formidable team to win the 2013 Asia Cup that would be held in Ipoh, Perak from Aug 24 to Sept 1, and earn a ticket to the World Cup in 2014, scheduled in the Hague, Holland.

Revington had tendered his resignation just before the FIH World Hockey League that was played in Johor Baharu from June 29 to July 7, citing interference from outside.
