Lions XII Win 2013 Malaysian Super League Title In Style By Whipping Felda United 4-0

KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 (Bernama) -- The Lions XII created history by becoming the first club team outside Malaysia to win the 2013 Malaysian Super League title in style by defeating Felda United 4-0 at Jalan Besar Stadium, here, Tuesday night.

The win today saw the Lions XII who are playing in the Super League as an invited team, collected 43 points, four more than second placed Johor Darul Takzim, with only one more match to complete the fixtures.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong handed the Super League trophy to the young Lions coached by former Singapore stalwart V. Sundramoorthy.

Both teams failed to score any goals in the half time.

Lions XII were lucky to earn their first goal when Felda's Azrul Ahmad headed the ball into its own net, giving advantage to the Lions XII in the 47th minute.

The young Lions, dressed in red, continued to roar as skipper Shahril Ishak scored the team's second goal in the 57th minute and third goal through striker Fazrul Nawaz before capping a brilliant performance with a fourth goal in the 85th minute.

The win saw the causeway neighbours crowned champion of the league for 2013.

Second placed Johor Darul Takzim look set to seal the runner-up spot after beating Negeri Sembilan 2-0 at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi, Seremban while Selangor kept pace by drawing level with the Johor outfit on points after a 4-1 win over T-Team at the Shah Alam Stadium in Selangor.

Recently crowned FA Cup champion, Kelantan also maintained their momentum by beating Perak 1-0 at the Perak Stadium in Ipoh while Pahang dashed the hopes of Armed Forces with a 2-1 victory at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan.

Meanwhile, Terengganu and Selangor PKNS shared the spoils in a goalless draw at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium.

The Malaysian Super League season will end on July 6.
