KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 (Bernama) -- The national weightlifting squad has broken four national records in the women's below 69kg and above 75kg categories through Nor Khasida Abdul Halim and Nur Jannah Batrisyah at the 2013 Malaysian Open WeightLifting Championship which ended in Penang on Sunday.
The squad's assistant coach, Mohd Faizal Baharom said for the under 69kg category, Nor Khasida renewed three national records in the snatch with a lift of 82kg and the clean and jerk event with a lift of 103kg.
Her third record was the total weight lifted in the two events - 185kg.
For the above 75kg category, Nur Jannah broke the national record in the clean and jerk by lifting 124kg to overcome her previous record of 123kg.
"Based on these achievements, I believe our athletes have the potential to provide stiff competition in the coming SEA Games in Myanmar.
"And it is not impossible for us to obtain medals although they have not taken part in any competitive championships in almost a year," said Faizal when contacted by Bernama.
The four-day championship started on Thursday at Youth and Sport Complex at Batu Uban, Penang.
