Only One World Class Velodrome Will Be Build Instead Of Two - Naim

KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 (Bernama) -- Only one velodrome will be build instead of the two planned initially said Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) deputy president Datuk Naim Mohamad.

According to Naim, he was informed that the Class One indoor velodrome would be build in Cheras.

"I was informed that during discussions held between the Youth and Sports Ministry and Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) today, it was agreed that only one world class velodrome will be build.

"I had earlier proposed that only one velodrome be build to safe maintenance cost and that the allocation under the 2013 Budget to build a velodrome in Nilai (Negeri Sembilan) can be channeled for development of cycling throughout the country," he told reporters, here, today adding that RM80 million was allocated under the 2013 Budget.

The idea to build only one velodrome was mooted since DBKL was also planning to build a Class One velodrome to replace Kuala Lumpur Velodrome that would be demolished to make way for commercial development.

Naim said if the proposal to build two Class One velodromes goes ahead as proposed, it would be a waste of funds because there would not be enough major competitions to be organised at both velodromes.
