Josiah Ng On A Double But Azizulhasni Runs Out Of Steam

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 Jun (Bernama) -- National cycling ace Josiah Ng showed his prowess to win a second gold medal in the National Track Cycling Championships at the Kuala Lumpur Velodrome in Cheras, here, today by winning the Men's Elite Sprint event.

In the morning, Josiah Ng who had last won a time trial event three years ago in Melbourne, Australia, had no problem overcoming six other riders to win the 1km Time Trial after clocking 1 minute 07.927 seconds.

In the Sprint event, Josiah Ng clocked 11.395s and 12.057s to beat Perak's Muhamad Edrus Md Yunos while Melaka rider Muhd Arfy Qhairant Amran caused a sensational upset by defeating renown national track ace Mohd Azizulhasni Awang to win third place with times of 11.345s and 11.794s.

Josiah Ng, the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games gold medallist in the Keirin event said he was happy with the win because his equipments were not complete as compared with other riders who were younger and better equipped.

"I'm older than them but they have 'viral' tired right now," he said after the race.

In the 1km Time Trial, Perak's Muhamad Edrus Md Yunos clocked 1:09.490s to finish second while Muhd Arfy Qhairant Amran from Melaka finished third with a time of 1:09.731s.
