Chong Wei, Koo-Tan March Into Indonesian Open Second Round

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (Bernama) -- World number one Datuk Lee Chong Wei kept the Malaysian flag flying at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta after moving into the second round of the Indonesian Open Premier Super Series.

In the first round match, the top seed in the tournament was given an early scare by China's rising star Wang Zhengming before winning 20-22, 21-4, 22-20 in a tie that went the extra distance.

The country's under fire top men's doubles pair Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong also advanced to the second round after overcoming Yonathan Suryatama Dasuki/Hendra Aprida Gunawan from the host country, 21-15, 21-11 in straight sets.

A number of men's doubles pairs from the country however, were shown the exit in the first round, namely Hoon Thien How/Tan Wee Kiong who lost 10-21, 18-21-18, 15-21 to Indonesian pair Andrei Adistia/Gideon Markus Fernaldi.

Gan Teck Chai/Ong Soon Hock also suffered a similar fate when they were beaten 21-14, 8-21, 11-21 by Japan's Takeshi Kamura/Keigo Sonoda while Mohd Fairuzizuan Mohd Tazari/Mohd Zakry Abdul Latif put up a spirited fight against China's world number one pair Cai Yun/Fu Haifeng before losing 14-21, 21-18, 21-14 in three sets.

Malaysia's top mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon/Goh Liu Ying, ranked fifth in the world, will face South Korea's Yoo Yeon Seong/Eom Hye Won tomorrow.

Malaysia did not send any women players.
