63 Malaysians To Compete In Indoor, Martial Arts Games In South Korea

KUALA LUMPUR, June 5 (Bernama) -- Malaysia are to send 63 athletes to the 4th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games scheduled for June 29 to July 6 in Incheon, South Korea, Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) secretary Datuk Sieh Kok Chi said today.

He said the Malaysians would participate in seven of the 12 events to be contested at the games. Twenty-five officials would accompany the athletes, he added.

The Malaysians would compete in muay, billiards, futsal, bowling, dance sport, go and e-sports, he told Bernama. The other events at the games are chess, kickboxing, short course swimming 25m, kabaddi and kurash (a martial arts originating from Turkey).

"Although the games are seen as less important, we hope that the athletes will make use of the opportunity to prepare for the SEA Games in Myanmar in December," he said.

Sieh said the OCM had not set any medal target because it was giving more focus to the SEA Games.

"The sending of athletes to Incheon is to enable them get exposure as many of them are new athletes," he said.
