FORMER Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar or KJ to his friends has been appointed Youth and Sports Minister in the new cabinet announced today.

The charismatic UMNO youth leader, who was also instrumental in forming the now defunct MyTeam football club, is also a big mixed martial arts (MMA) fan.

The 37-year-old is a member of parliament for Rembau and has a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy, politics and economics from St Hugh’s College in Oxford. In 1998, he completed his Master’s degree in Legal and Political Theory at UCL.

He worked as a journalist for a short period.
