Putra Stadium still not ready

WITH just three more days to the start of the Sudirman Cup, the lighting rigs are still not up at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil.

Yesterday was supposed to be the first day of training at the Putra Stadium for the Malaysians and they had to make do with an incomplete venue.

It seems that the Badminton World Federation (BWF) wanted to do things differently this time by bringing in lighting rigs – made up of moving heads and effect lights – to heighten the look and feel of the tournament, thus inadvertently causing a delay in the availability of the courts.

However, national doubles coach Tan Kim Her said the rigs did not pose much of a problem to Malaysia’s preparations.

“Today is the first day we’re training at the stadium. Yes, it’s incomplete but our aim today was to let the players have a free day, to get a feel of the courts and acclimatise themselves with the surroundings,” said Kim Her.

“For me, it’s not an issue. So long as it’s safe and we can train on the court ... that’s good enough.”
