Kitchee SC Dash Kelantan's AFC Cup Hopes

KOTA BAHARU, May 14 (Bernama) -- Kelantan failed make it to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC Cup) quarterfinals after losing 0-2 to Kitchee Sport Club (Kitchee SC) from Hong Kong at the Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, here, Tuesday night.

Though both sides were evenly matched at the start, Kelantan suffered a rude shock in the 14th minute when Lek Kcira, Kelantan's import deflected a cross from Kitchee SC striker Pablo Gonzalez Counago, into his own net.

The goal seemed to have spurred Kitchee SC who continued to pound Kelantan goalkeeper Khairul Fahmi Che Mat with a series of shots until the Kelantan defence caved in to allow Jorge Tarres Paramo to make it 2-0 in the 47th minute.

Kelantan who had topped Group G started as favourite since they were playing on home turf but Kitchee SC who had finished second in Group E, however, were in their element today.

With the win Kitchee SC will move on to the quarterfinal stage scheduled in December.
