Khairy To Meet BAM Over Poor Showing By Kien Keat-boon Heong

PUTRAJAYA, May 21 (Bernama) - Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin will meet with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) to discuss the poor performance of top pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.

The meeting, expected to be held after the Sudirman Cup badminton tournament ends on Sunday, would focus on improving their game strategy and developing the sport.

"I don't want to comment on the performance of athletes when the tournament is going on because it is unfair. As the minister, I want to see success in all sports including football and hockey," he said after receiving the minister's post from Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek who was appointed Communications and Multimedia Minister at Menara KBS here today.

Malaysia began the Sudirman Cup campaign with a 2-3 humiliation to minnows Taiwan in a Group C match at Putra Stadium, Bukit Jalil last week.

The shock defeat of world number three Kien Keat-Boon Heong paved way for the loss to Taiwan making it difficult for favourites Malaysia to make the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Shabery said that Khairy's appointment as Youth and Sports Minister would be able to bring more change to sports in the country.

"Khairy is a dynamic leader and closer to generation Y, very active and has a high spirit of sportsmanship.

"He is able to understand the new generation and I believe the Youth and Sports Ministry will be become better under his leadership."
