KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 (Bernama) -- The National cycling squad scored a physiological victory ahead of the Myanmar SEA Games in December as three countries regarded as strong contenders did not send their teams for the Pre-SEA Games championships that starts tomorrow.
The Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF) in a statement Monday said Indonesia who dominated the 2007 SEA Games cycling events in Korat, Thailand would not be sending their team since the route in Naypyitaw in Myanmar resemble the Subang cycling route in Indonesia.
The Philippines and Vietnam however, did not give specific reason for not sending their elite riders to Naypyitaw.
In the statement, Myanmar SEA Games Technical Committee chairman for cycling, Datuk Abu Samah Abd Wahab said only Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore and Brunei will be taking part in the competition.
"We are still waiting for an official reply from Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines," said Abu Samah who is also the MNCF president and Asian Cycling Council (ACC) vice president.
Meanwhile, National coach for the road race cycling squad, Aminuddin Sulaiman said despite the absence of the three countries, the competition in Myanmar would still be competitive.
