PETALING JAYA – By ERIC SAMUEL: Fans are in for a “Messi-ive” celebration mood when Spanish football giants Barcelona make their maiden visit to Malaysia in August.

Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) deputy president, yesterday confirmed that the high-profile exhibition match between the reigning world club champions and the Malaysian XI Selection will be held at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Aug 10 (kick-off at 8.45pm).

He said Malaysian football fans can expect a thrilling experience with the likes of three-time World Player of the Year Lionel Messi, Xavi, Andres Iniesta, David Villa and Cesc Fabregas on show even though their arrival in Kuala Lumpur coincides with Hari Raya Aidil Fitri.

“Barcelona are not an ordinary club … they are a role model club and an institution established 115 years ago. The history and the achievements of this club is truly amazing … and to have them come to our shores is indeed a big honour,” said Tengku Abdullah at the Barcelona Asian Tour 2013 launch yesterday.
